My dear Carrie,
I think your real question is "Why do I care about what other people believe?" I care about what other people believe for many reasons. The first one that comes to mind is that I don't like to see other people waste their lives with a set of nonsense notions about gods and afterlife. A person who does not believe in a god and afterlife is far more likely to make correct conclusions about their life and their world around them. On a more selfness note, I don't like being in a world where people of one set of false beliefs class with people having a different set of false beliefs. There are many reasons really. Another is that such false beliefs hinder the progress of knowledge regarding our human condition and our environment.
